Need suggestions for future transmission plans.

Hey, I have an 87 camaro with a 305 4 barrel and t-5 tranny, sometime in the future I hope to have a 383 stroker with a T-56. However, getting the 383 stroker will be a while, will a T-56 still work with my 305? Which tremec should I use LS1 or LT1? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

any one of those t-56 boxes will work but if you can get a hold of one from an LS1 for a good price, i'd say go with that one and yes it will work with your 305. The aftermarket has a lot of retro-fit kits out there for bolting up a t-56 in an fbody...just do a search and you'll find a lot of info.

The LS1 T-56 will NOT work with a Gen 1 or Gen 2 small block, it will only work with an LS1. All of the T-56 transmissions have an electric speedometer, you have to either get an electric speedometer or an adapter from Dakota Digital or somewhere else if you want your speedometer to work right. Read the stickty at the top of this forum for a LOT of good info from people who have done this swap.

This is true, they will fit with a lot of effort. but if you're going to buy a whole transmission, it's a lot esier to start with one that bolts up with a LOT less effort.
