Well, I noticed a loud whine from the rear end recently. I replaced my tranny with a probuilt 7--r4 last year. I thought the noise was my drive shaft loop. I took it off and i still have the noise. It sounds like a loud dull whine and it gets bad under decelleration. I also hear something rattling when I"m at low speeds? I did a search but I'm not sure what direction to go with this problem?

Any help is GREATLY APPRICIATED

 

Well, the noise got worse and worse as I drove. I stopped by bhaas's house and we noticed the driveline was slightly bent. On my way home the knock got louder and louder???????? the knock got louder and faster the faster I went. Put the car in N and the knock rate stayed the same???

 

think i'd pull the carrier and inspect everything, look at u joints too.

thank you for the responce! I jacked it up, took off the dirve shaft and then tried to spin the wheels. Clunk every rotation. I think my rear end is gone

So what rear ends fit our thirdgen's? I have drum brakes in the rear?

any rear from a 3rd or 4th gen f body would be direct swap, however the 4th gen rears are a few inches wider

 

I tried to post a pic but the file was too big. Broke 1/4 of my pinion gear! Off to the junk yard. So how do i change my spedo gear if i get different gears?

 

I think my car's doing the same thing has your, I thought it was maybe my exhaust but now that I think about it it might be my drivetrain (Should stop doing donuts) or my transmission..
I would check under car.. but its too ****ing cold in Canada right now!! haha Can't wait to get this car off the road.
