trans swap

my buddy got t-boned last thursday. it was a nice 86 camaro 305 5-spd. he now has to use his backup car. its a 91 chevy s-10 blazer. he wants to put the 5speed stuff in the blazer. i have a set of pedals from a s-10 that will work, but would it be better to use all of the camaro manual stuff and the s-10 pedals or use s-10 stuff? i have pedals and clutch master from a 2.8, his is a 4.3 it has the same bolt pattern as a v8. his tranny is slipping thats why he wants to do it. then he will put the camaro motor in after a rebuild.

The bellhousing from the F-car has the trans cocked 17 degrees to the side from straigth up and down. This will probably create problems in the truck. Ideally just get a bellhousing from a truck to use. The trans should be the same, but I'm not sure about tailshaft length. If it's different you will need to modify or replace the driveshaft. Is the S10 2WD or 4WD? If it's 4WD you need a 4WD trans with a short tailshaft meant for a t-case.

well the parts s10 is 2wd. the truck i have is a 4x4. id like to use the camaro trans for a better ratio. the only thing im hauling is my own ***. if the camaro t5 could slip into a 4x4 or awd transfer case thats the direction id like to go. the trans being cocked i could fab a shifter up. but then again it makes me thing that the trans in a camaro the shifter is strait up so the combo t5 and bellhousing should make everything fit right?

The car trans won't work in a 4WD truck. The tailshaft is too long. You'd need a 4WD truck trans.

ok, then that really sucks
well the s10 trans is 5spd strait up, but its a 2wd. this bites, there arent maybe 5speed anythings here in nj. most junkyards switched to import only.
well thanks for the info

Yeah, we don't have many trucks in junkyards in DE period. I just ran up to Allentown PA this past weekedn to get parts for my truck. There is a mind boggling truck junkyard and parts operation there. They probably have what you need if you don't mind taking a Saturday to treck up there.
