You are asking one of the most debatable questions on this forum. The stick shift guys will tell you that sticks are the best. Automatic lovers will tell you they are best. Some auto lovers will say 700-r4 is best. Others may say you need to convert to a turbo 350 or turbo 400. Heck, some may recommend a powerglide! I have read about the t-5 verses tremmec verses muncie verses borg-warner. I have my own opinion which I will keep to myself. I have been told my preferences are stupid , but it works for me. Hopefully many will chime in. You will have to fish thru the info and decide which is best for you. Good luck either way

it depends on what you want, your level of skill, and as always money. me i have owned two autos and a 5 speed. i love my 5 speed, but the auto would be more CONSISTENT (not saying faster or slower so dont flame me) in the 1/4
again it depends on what you want, if you want a 5spd and can do it or have it done, then there you go.
if you don't care, i would say, have your auto rebuilt w/ some perf parts and a higher stall converter.
with a 5 speed, you have to cut the hole in your floor pan and find a donor car (cheapest way to go) bc you need the pedals, slave cyl. hyd. lines, tranny, bellhousing clutch fluid resv. etc (just a basic list of parts there are more) and you need a console (shifter plate, boot, etc) all of this can sound overwhelming, but don't let that deter you if that's what you really want.
and remember the 5 speed has many nay sayers as to the power it can hold (so keep that in mind when thinking of power goals)
also remember that 5spd cars, while not abundant can be found, i got my 92 rs for 1700 (slightly wrecked)
these are just ideas, and are not necessarily my opinion, so pls dont flame me thanks
