Corvette 700R4

okay, when i bought my car, i was buying it from the owners son, becuz the owner had died, and the son said that his dad puked the 305 motor that was in my car, and swapped it out for a corvette motor, 1990 or somewhere around there...also i noticed when i got it, that the tranny shifted way stiffer than a usual 3rd gen did, and it was obvious that the trans has had work done to it.....my question is, is it possible to put the 700R4 from the vette into my camaro, and also how much more durable is the corvette trans, and how would i tell if it is indeed a corvette trans??cuz if the guy swapped in the motor, you would think he would swap in the trans too??is there anything that makes the vette tranny different from the camaro trans, numbers or anything to tell them apart so i know what i'm working with??

The corvette case is different from other 700's. The vette trans has no bolt holes to mount your crossmember to. The vette uses holes in the tailshaft for mounting purposes. Except for the output shaft all vette internals can be installed in an f-body case. The valve body, governer, and servo is what give the trans its"character"

The case cannot be a corvette case. No holes in trans for mount to bolt to. All other 700-r4's had these holes. Very common for a rebuilder to install a corvette governor and a corvette servo. A shift kit will also inprove shift firmness and quality.

The "Corvette servo" also came in many transmissions in vehicles that weren't Corvettes.
