v-6 t-5 question

ok i know it has been convered.. but havnt found much detail.. anyways, the t-5 from the v-6 world class version... it has a 1" by 14 tooth spline correct? if so would it be possible to use a clutch setup from an 88-89 astro van.. from what i see it is also a 1"by 14 tooth spline but it is an 11" disk instead of the 9 1/8" disk that is called for for a v-6 tranny... reason i ask is i have a wc t-5 i would like to use in my v-8 camaro but want to make sure i can get a clutch for it that will handle... any help or suggestions are welcome... thanks

You need to use the V8 bellhousing/fork and get a special 14 spline clutch made. The user "Z28racer" had more info on this. I had intended to go the same route but decided against it because I dont want to be buying custom or weaker replacement parts later on down the road. Instead I ditched the V6 T5 itself and used as many other parts as possible for a V8 T5 swap. Its possible to make the swap work, but I dont think its a good choice for me since I break stuff alot. I think it would be cool if you just wanted to make what you have work and you dont plan to race the car or anything.

i dont plan to race the car... i was thinking havin a clutch made, but i found that a clutch from a late 80's astro van is 14 spline by 1" and is 11 in diamater.... just curious if that clutch would work with it instead of having one made or using a smaller one.

The f body disc is 10.4" you need one made that diameter, I have no problems beating on and racing mine without trans failure. Some can drive a stick, others should just admit the auto is more intelligent.

Z28racer, what disc/pres plate combo did you use? i can not find any shops around here and dont know where to get one made.. so if you could let me know what clutch disc you used from what vehicle.. and i would assume that you would just used the pres plate from a z28 that would be found on my car... or if you have access to somewhere that makes them and can let me know....thanks for any help

Theres a shop local to me that made it for me, they do everything from little geo / honda saucer sized clutches to big rigs and really know what they're doing http://www.baycityclutch.com/
Yes i used a stock Z28 pressure plate.

Just tell them you want a disc with a 10.4" dia and 1" 14 spline hub, talk to joe he's cool and will probably know who you got the reference from

The pilot bearing is the same, and I think the TOB is too.

Need the V8 pilot bearing / bushing, im very sure the throwout is the same.

IIRC my V6 pilot had a huge OD.

The pilot bearing is the same. I have both a V-6 T-5 and a V-8 T-5. They are the same. Also if you buy one it will say 90* V-6 and V-8.

Yes and just like i said, you are still wrong, the 2.8 is a 60* V6, they have a different pilot bushing, the OUTSIDE diameter of it where it fits into the crank is different, thank you for trying to correct someone who is providing the correct information.

My bad, I was thinking inner diameter, not outer diameter.

Wow this is news to me. Lets clarify this. You can modify the V6 T5 to work on a V8. I want all the info on this. I have a WC T5 still in one of my 91's that is in the process of a strip down for a swap. I want to keep it manual and any help would be much apreciated.

yup... a v-6 t-5 can be used on a v-8.... i also am using a 91 tranny in my 91 z28... everything i have found from searching on here, you would need the v-8 bellhousing, fork, pressure plate, pilot bearing and throwout bearing, as well and the pedals and clutch/slave cylinder. also need either a custom made clutch that is 10.5 in diameter with a 1" 14 spline hub.. i had mine made from baycity clutch as i was refered to above.... or you can use a smaller one from an s-10 or something. there is plenty of info on here that i have found from searching... im sure if you have any questions the knowledgable ones here will be glad to help, and to those if any of this is incorrect please let me know..

The only other helpful advice i have, grind some off the input shaft where it goes into the pilot, its a tad longer than the V8 one, it CAN cause the clutch not to release, i've had it work without grinding, and had another require me to remove the trans and grind it, just do it before instaling, remove maybe 1/4" or a little more.

Currently I have a 92' v6 with a t5 trans. The motor is locked up and I have a 350 sbc ready to go in. From reading this though am I correct in assuming that I'm going to need a donor bellhousing, fork, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, pedals and clutch/slave cylinder from a v8 donor? Even though the car was originally a stick? I knew a new/used flywheel would be in order as well as a clutch from a early s10. Was just hoping to get the car back on the road a few months before I get the t56.

Any help would be appreciated, only a couple weeks before I had time off to start project.

How you determined you'd need new pedals and master / slave is beyond me scratch those off your list.
