89 rs transmission no drive in forward or reverse.

My friends automatic 305 will hardly move....

When you put it in any gear it just sits like in neutral, if you give it gas it takes a second and will jerk but then just goes "limp" again. Kind of like pushing in a clutch, letting out for a second then holding it in again. over and over.

I checked the transmission fluid, and it is fine. I know nothing about automatics so i'm stumped. Both of my camaros have been 5 speed and when my girlfriends automatic died in her mustang i changed it over to a t-5.

So, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Clint

Howd you check the fluid? With the engine idling? Is the fluid burned, or does it look normal?

Sorry for not being clear. I checked the fluid with it idling and warm in park, drive and reverse, all showed full. The fluid is still noticeably red and does not smell burned. It is barely darker than new fluid right out of a bottle and smells no different.

I could guess the torque converter or a clogged filter, but I would like an experienced auto tranny troubleshooters opinion.

The way I have always fixed things that I am unable to troubleshoot is by replacing suspected parts 1 or 2 at a time until it is fixed, but money is a problem with him and he needs it fixed as cheap as possible.

thanks again,
Clint

Took off the fluid pan, and took some pictures. There is a glitter like look to it but it does not feel grainy or have a texture of any kind, it's just real "purty lookin". It also has no chunks or anything. Also, it was stirred up just before taking the pictures to show the glitter look, when it is settled you can barely notice it.

thanks,
Clint
