torque convertor operation

it's a quickie, does the TCC lockup in 3rd gear when driving around? I'm one of those people using a manual lockup switch, and was wondering , if i had the car in drive, and was going roughly 40-45 mph (the speed where you could just about shift into OD) would the TCC lock? I've locked it in third at that speed, and it sounds good, nice and smooth. If you put it in 4th, i'd be below lockup speed from what i can tell, (or atleast at the very bottom of it) and being able to lock in third gives less "slipage" if i stay at those speeds for extended periods of time.

Yes. I've played with my detent cable so mine goes into 3rd around 10% throttle, locks up, and then goes intos 4th while still locked. I do most of my driving in 3rd anyways. (city)

But yes it will lock up in third unless you leave it in OD under light throttle.

thank u very much, that's exactly what i needed to know. I was driving it, and locking it in third when i got up to speed, then shifting into 4th when necessary, and things seemed smoother, than holding third longer, till i could get it into 4th and locked....thanx for the advice. Now i need to remount my switch to a location that's easier to reach, like the center console.
