I figured out the E-brake cables, and have the brakes hardlined, and I got to looking closer at it and it looks like i have a problem, or maybe it isn't. But the driveshaft is offset towards the pass. side in the rear. I don't even have the driveshaft in and I can tell it won't be aligned..

In other words, the pinion yoke is offset to the pass side on this rear, so the driveshaft is at a weird angle. I'm about ready to give Moser a call and ask. The U-joint in the rear is almost touching my exhaust pipe. Don't look right at all.

Is that normal?? Here's a pic:

Finish it up and see how it is then. Thats the way they are. You might have to adjust your exhaust. Mine looked like it would have problems too, but it didnt. Bolted right in. After the vehicle is on the ground, the angles will change, and be better overall.

 

Thanks alot brutalform - That's what I was looking for...someone that is running a 9" that knows whether it's normal or not. If you look at the other post in which I asked about this, one person says his driveshaft is straight with a Currie 9", and another guy said his is angled too (from DTS), and it's causing vibration problems - which I don't want to go through again.

I know I'll most likely have to do something with the exhaust, not sure what yet. Hard to see in the pic but the pipe is touching the round piece around the yoke....and the yoke itself is close too. Grrrrrr....

"Bolt in" package my a**.....yeah, it bolts in and interferes with everything else....venting....

 

Just got off the phone with Moser, and at first the tech guy said there shouldn't be any deviation from the stock driveshaft angle.

I then told him the package I ordered and his answer changed to "there's a 15/16ths off set" on the 9" rears, and it's normal. Looks like more than that to me...

I told him my concerns with vibration, and long story short - he recommends running it as is and find out. So my next question was- "And if it vibrates, whats my recourse, will you guys back up your work?"

Needless to say, He could'nt give me an answer to that question. He just said they make a thousand of these rears every year and have had no complaints....guess I'll see.

 

I'll take a better look at mine later today, need to get the car ready for the track this weekend Hope things work out ok with yours

 

I'm running a Currie and it has no offset. I've been tracking down a minor vibration problem and went so far as to plumb bob the crank snout, trans yoke, and pinion yoke and mark the centerlines on my garage floor. Ran a chalk line front to rear and it is all in line.

 

I was reminded by someone else on the board via a PM on this topic that I failed to post the outcome of this. So please excuse my board edicate....

Everything turned out fine. When I got everything together it fit perfectly pretty much. The offset didn't look near as bad. When you add the torque arm and drive shaft, it seems better. No unusual vibes so far!

Yea, when you dont have everything completely assembled, it might look out of wack. Glad to hear everything is good so far. You wont have to worry. All your rear problems should be a thing of the past.
