t-5 bellhousing torque capacity

I'm using a t-5 bellhousing in conjunction with a different transmission and am putting out about 400 ft lbs at the engine, with plans to be in the 450 ft lbs range in the next year or so, am i getting near the point where i might exceed whats safe to use with that bellhousing?

Bellhousing

I don't know about you but I kinda like my toes. I always just run a blowproof on any stick car, especially if I plan on beating on it which is a given for me. Because if that clutch ever decides to fly apart the floor is not going to stop the peices. Not to mention the damage it does to the back of the block. Problem is though, I am not sure if Lakewood or anyone makes a blowproof for these cars with the goofy crooked mounted transmissions in these third gens. I am more familiar with the good old muncie's and the like. You are talking to an old fart here. Larry.

Well it basically comes down to i can get a t-5 bell with clutch fork and pivot ball for 95 bucks, and a blowproof bellhousing, in addition to a clutch fork and pivot ball would cost me 390 dollars, and im already at the limit of my spending of my tranny swap budget.

Is the stock t-5 bell that unsafe?

And yes lakewood and mcleod both make bellhousings that would do what i need, just cant really afford it

actually if you have life insurance you can make money running factory bells. most if not all insurance pays for lost body parts, toes being less than a whole foot and a foot being less than a leg. i see no reason to spend near 400 dollars on aftermarket parts when the truth is the factory parts can actually make you money, providing you do in fact have an insurance policy.

blowproof

Ede, your hilarious, I don't think I want to loose body parts to collect a few bucks Doug,,,,not running the blowproof is completely up to you, it's not that GM bells are unsafe, it's just not going to stop clutch shrapnel from coming through the floor. If you beat on the car with sticky tires that will always be a possibility. I personally never run a stick car without a blowproof but I have been around sticks for over 30 years, I have had it happen so I am cautious. Keep in mind NHRA requires one on a stick car if you run sticky tires and run below a certain index, can't remember off the top of my head, I am sure someone here can comment on that. But if you don't plain on racing the car it would be no concern of yours. It is entirely up to you Doug, really the blowproofs don't cost that much but I can understand if you are on a budget. You can always upgrade to one later on if you like, just cheap insurance in my book. Goodluck Doug, take it easy, Larry.

Car: American Iron Firebird
Engine: The little 305 that could.
Transmission: Richmond T-10
Axle/Gears: Floater 9" - 3.64 gears
If it's a race car, you can always cover the floor in aluminum diamond plate as a quick fix until you can afford the blowproof
