TCC when drag racing?
Who here locks their TCC when drag racing??
I have read some guys write that they picked up a tenth and 3mph by locking the TCC....
I have also read that the TCC is not rated to hold at WOT torque and will be damaged...
Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks!

Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: 305 T.B.I. (Vin tag "E" = LO3)
Transmission: THM-700-R4
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt posi 3.23
Dont quote me when i say this, but i think the only reason the TCC doesnt lock up at WOT is because the engine might bog due to lack of torque, so in stock form it only locks up at crusing speed.

Heres one that will blow peoples minds I'm sure :-)
EVERY SINGLE TPI AUTO CAR LOCKS THE CONVERTER AT FULL THROTTLE
This is true in every cal I have on file and all 350's it as at 70mph and I know on the later 305 it is 70mph as well.
What others have gained from this I dont know :-)
What I do know is doing my own tuning, I get more knock and worse acceleration from the converter engagement than I do with leaving it unlocked at WOT.
(sustained high mph running you should keep it locked for colling purposes unless modified)
Eventually engaging a single dics converter at high speeds and load will damage it and kill it eventually. when this hapens is hard to say, they did do it from the factory, but how many people realy go WOT past 70mph on a regular basis?
If u plan on doing it with any kind of built engine, I more than likely woud try staying away from it and only do it if u can prove it works on your combo and there is $$$ on the line.
There is a reason for multi disc converters, its to take the abuse of locking it up under hard/WOT. They do work and will tkae the abuse, just cost an arm and a leg.
Your crossifre ecm may or may not lock up under WOT(dont knwo what u have done either) , but I'm almost willing to bet that it does going by all the other cal's I have seen.

Factory calibration locked my van up at 62 mph no matter the load. Under WOT I can feel it lock as soon as it hits 62 even in 2nd gear.

Probuilt used to sell a full throttle multiclutch disc lockup TC for like 1100$ for drag strip use. I'm gonna have to say it's probably not good to do on the stock unit.
