Anyone ever converted a drum brake rear end to disc brakes??

Here's the deal, I've currently got a disc brake rear end but it has a borg warner 9 bolt rear with 2.77 gears. I'm really wanting to upgrade to something better. Problem is, I'm having better luck finding thirdgen drum brake rear ends than I am disc brake rear ends. I know that you have to modify the drum brake rear end so that you can bolt the disc brake backing plates to it but that's all I know.

Has anyone done this before and how hard is it? Would any shop be able to do it for me or am I going to have to hunt around to find one that will do it for me?

You might consider a search as the topic has been extensively covered. Note the following links for example:

Just get a 4th gen rear. Your back wheels will stick out a bit more, but you'll get the disc brakes, the posi, and a better gear ratio in one easy swap.

Also, if you ever put on 4th gen wheels, you'll only need front spacers, none in the rear. Almost pays for itself

Is the 4th Gen rear a direct bolt in?

Also, I'm betting that finding a 4th Gen rear is about as hard as finding a disc brake 3rd gen rear with a decent gear ratio....

Pretty much, except for the e-brake. The cables on the 4th-gen rear end aren't the right length. What I did was got some heavy-gauge general cable from the hardware store and used some clamps to "extend" the e-brake cable a bit. I connected the ends of the 4th-gen cables to the e-brake bracket.

I found a bunch of 4th gen rears on eBay, since virtually all the 4th gen V8 rears were disc brake (and I believe all were posi and at least 3.23 ratio as well, not sure), it shouldn't be hard.
