Rear end ratio find on a 87 camaro
As some of you may or may not know I'm restoring / building this car, anyway, I pulled the rear end out to change the in-tank fuel pump so I decided to check it out since I've got it all apart, anyway after I sandblasted the chunk and axle tubes I got to looking for the numbers that tell the gear ratio, year, etc..
I got my Haynes manual and a camaro number reference guide to see what I had. Keep in mind I've owned this car since it was new, anyway the ratio code is a 2KG which is an 1982 number for a 3.08 gear open rear, my car is a 1987
Well, I checked and there was no 2KG listed for 87 but even the manufacture date states it's a 87 rear end. It is an open rear but buy the 1987 numbers a 3.08 is a posi, 4HB and 4HF.
Anyone know anything about this? It really doesn't matter but it would be nice to know what the deal is with the codes, thanks
