Auto to manual swap: what about the ECM?
I JUST got a new ECM and chip burned last week for my SD swap into my 86 TA. I'm looking to get a 350 next year, but I want a manual tranny swapped in before the winter. I've already asked around a bit about the swap, but I never asked about prom changes. Any way around the prom swap?

I'd think you would be fine without a prom change, until you swap your engine anyway. Nothing in the manual transmission is computer controlled. You'll just have an extra plug you'll have to tie out of the way.

So manual to auto will be a problem? I found a cheap firebird I was considering swapping the trannies then reselling the firebird for what I paid for it.

you can swap manual to auto, if you use a th350 trans it's easier. the 700r4 has lockup that is computer controlled, it's alot of work if you want to re-sell a parts car. honestly, i dont think it would be worth it to put all that labor into it, then sell a car for a few hundred.
you also have to factor in transmission wiring, theres a harness for the lockup on automatics, and the harness for neutral safety and reverse. they are in 2 toally different locations on both vehicles and would have to be relocated.
one more thing... putting an auto into a car that was manual will leave a gaping hole in the firewall

Yeah, not worth the effort I suppose. I found a firebird for a grand that I could easily resell for that price with an auto tranny but its just too much work.
