make sure it has a SBC pattern and not BOC. torque arm mounting would have to be over come. 3 speed shifter instead of 4

tranny is longer too, gotta cut the driveshaft...

too bad it's not a th350, you could buy a torque arm adapter and slap it right in.

I have never heard of a 400 installed in a 3rd gen, just 350's.

Your best bet is to grab a 700 from a junk yard for a few hundred bucks

Never heard of one in a 3rd gen? A few people run them including me. I was able to use my stock driveshaft with a TH400 slip yoke put on. Only thing is, my car originally had the 3 speed 200c. The length of the TH400 short tail and TH200c are within a half inch of each other. I bought a Spohn crossmember and torque arm for the swap but I'm sure there are other options out there.

I have a th-400 in my 88 camaro.

Your buddy will need at the min.

A 82-83 F body 200c 3 speed auto driveshaft, or his stock one cut down.

A "swap kit" I used the hurst kit on mine. It has the crossmember, torque arm mount bracket, shift cable bracket, vac line, etc.. Around $115-125 from summit.

A conversion front U joint. The th-400 slip yoke is bigger and takes a bigger U joint.. The conversion Joint will have 2 caps to fit the driveshaft, and the other 2 caps will fit the slip yoke.

Th-400 slip yoke

th-350/400 torque converter
