What happened to this input shaft?
I just got this t5, and it made a bad sound when the clutch was let out, but still moved the car. I removed the engine, and the input shaft just fell out. First of, should it just do that? I have 0 experience with manual trannys. And secondly, what could have caused these teeth to bust like this? Finally, at the end of the shaft, it has been worn down quite a bit. Where it fits into, its really loose, does this matter? I circled the worn end, and pointed to the teeth

That thing is toast the imput shaft should not fall out & the shaft looks like it got real hot from the colar of it . The end is out of round from it moveing around probley from a bad bearing .That would kill the teeth too .

the tip looks like it is worn but, usable if you had no choice.
how did it " fall out"? there is a bearing retainer on the out side of the trans. it is impossiable for it to fall out with that there.
has a collar and 4 bolts hold it down

my guess is you had no retainer which makes me think you damaged the main shaft and well most likely the counter shaft if the input was able to flop around

I was pulling the motor, and the input shaft just stayed with the transmission. It would just flop around where it went into the transmission, and I just grabbed it and it fell out. I know the whole tranny needs to be gone through, my main concern is did it damage where the tip goes into the motor?

When you get a new pilot bearing slip it over the end of the shaft and see how much play you have . I can not see from the photo if the teeth are busted or if there is any crack's but my gess is that they are not if you considering useing it agian and you do need a bearing retainer for it .

I just looked at some diagrams and your right, there was no retainer what so ever. I think the shafts done, theres a big section of missing teeth.
