If you're going in to do synchros rebuild the trans. The complete kit is $175 or so with all bearings, synchro rings/springs/dogs, bushing, seals, roll pins, oil funnel, snap rings, etc. Basically all the parts except the gears and shafts. Splurge $15 on the manual too. You'll have a trans that won't need to come apart for years when you are done, if ever again.
If you are having reverse clash problems you probably need a new reverse idler and a new 1/2 slider. The idler is about $35 and the slider is like $70. Years of ham fisted goons jamming the trans into reverse without putting it in a forward gear first has probably damaged those parts. There is no synchro for reverse, so if the slider isn't lined up you get gear clash and damage to the idler and slider, which has the reverse gear teeth cut onto it. The only American made trans I've ever seen that had a synchronized reverse is the T56.
