Manual Conversion
Manual Conversion
Hi, I own an 89 IROC-Z with the 350 TPI engine, recently the auto box has died so I thought this would be the perfect chance to change my car to manual, however I really have no idea what manual box and parts I should buy. Another problem is I live in Australia, so finding the parts might be abit more difficult. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

You may want to look into a T56 6spd out of a 94-97 F-body. The T56 can handle around 350-400 ft-lbs of torque and has a .50 sixth gear ratio to keep your mileage in check. Of course that's assuming you have the will power to keep your foot off the go pedal...
As far as finding one, I've seen several sites on the web that sell conversion kits. Some are salvaged parts and some were new. I imagine overseas shipping would be quite expensive though. You may want to check your local junk yards for a doner car.
Finding the parts was the hardest part of the whole project. I got my kit from www.hawksthirdgenparts.com
There are some very helpful tech articles on this site regarding the conversion.
