hey guys,

I just picked up my 89RS about two weeks ago and the front seal on the transmission is blown...How hard is this to replace? Well before I noticed this, I filled it back up and it wont even get out of first gear. The guy I bought it from said the previous owner just had it rebuilt.

So I am wondering if it was rebuilt correctly or the adjustments are completely out of whack.

Should I try and just find a good used one from here on the board or locally and just put it in?

to replace the front seal, the transmission will have to come out of the car. after that, if you are careful, it can be fairly easy. when you do, check the neck on the torque convertor to make sure it is not messed up. not coming out of first could be a govenor problem, tv cable not adjusted properly, or possibly a 2/4 band incorrectly installed.

 

Yeah, I was thinking of taking it out and replacing that seal. I know the guy I bought it from replaced the governor so I am wondering if its out of whack. With my luck, I would change the seal, get everythnig adjusted and the damn thing still not shift.

He indicated to me that it shifted through all the gears so I am thinking it may be just an adjustment. The guy I bought this from works in my building so I dont think he would be lying to me about the trans.
