Crashed Torque Converter!
Hey guys, well my car was hit (totalled) a while back and I just got around to pulling the transmission to get my B&M holeshot 2400 out (only had 20 miles on it before the crash. Well I pulled the trans and the entire bellhousing was separated from the engine. There were multiple spots on it where large chunks of it had fallen off also. The problem is that a few of those pieces fell in between the torque converter and the transmission while it was still moving.
These pieces left 1 or two gouges in the torque converter housing, shearing off two of the little raised bumps which from my understanding are the spots where the fins are brazed on. The slight amount of play that should be in the bearing on the inside isnt there anymore and it isnt very tight but does not turn freely. My question is what can I do about this? Can B&M repair damage from a crash like this? Has anybody had something similar as far as damage goes where they could give me some advice. If I can get it repaired for $200 it is better than buying a new one at $350. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

i doubt B&M will do anything about it....but other than that I have nothin for you, but quick question
how do you like your converter? I just bought the same one, and its in on its way...is it a nice converter or what? I also got a deal on it...

Well for the 20 miles I was able to put on it I loved it. My motor was built to not start pulling until around 2600. It completely eliminated the soft spot down low and just ripped through the gears because every shift was more in the meat of the powerband. I did have a shift kit before hand which I loved the nice firm shifts it gave, but the TC seemed to smooth out the shifts so they werent so wrenching. This is good because it gives a better transition between the gears, but not if you love that "blow the hat of your head" hard style shifting. Other than that it worked like a champ.
I noticed though that you have 3.73 gears in your rearend. With a 2400 stall converter you wont notice as much improvement as you would with a 3000 or so with those gears in the rear end. That ratio requires less torque input from the engine to stall out the converter and might give you a slightly lower stall speed than expected. But they arent that hard to put in, and if they arent used barely at all, not that hard to resell either. So if you dont like how the 2400 works with your setup, try out a 2800 or 3000 and see how you like it. I had 3.23 rear end gears and it stalled around 2500. If you can throw up on here what times you run with it and how it felt once you get it in.
