general gearing questions (total newb)
ok. kind of a newb question, i have been searching through posts trying to learn and it is not working, so i will take the easy way out and just ask.
BACKROUND:
i have a 2.8L v6 with a non WC-T5 and pegleg rear (don't know the gear ratio, it's whatever stock sixers came with. i will probably pull the cover off and check tomorow)
i am planning a turbo 3.8 swap next summer.
a guy offered to sell me a 3.23 posi rear. (i would install soon)
GENERAL QUESTIONS:
the lower the number the higher the gearing right?
ex: a 3.23 would be able to atain a much higher speed at a given RPM in a given gear , then a 4.10 would at the same RPM and in the same gear.
the 4.10 would be able to accelerate much quicker, at a sacrifice of top end speed. is that correct or do i have it backwards?
SPECIFIC QUESTIONS:
would the 3.23 be high for my v6 to handle? (on the street, it's a daily driver) i know the 3.8L will be able to handle it
thanks.

update:
all 2.8s came with 3.42s
3.1 had 3.23 in autos and 3.42 in manual
so those gears would be too much for her eh?
would it be possible to buy the rear end and keep the posi and swap in my 3.42 gears? or would this be a shop only type thing?

those gears should slam right onto the posi diff. only problems that should arise is if you were to try swapping a 2 (2.xx) and 3 (3.xx) series gears on the same carrier, which doesnt work.
