rear advice

i have a 86 firebird and doing a full engine/drive train swap. i would like to do a 9" rear but would like some advise from ppl who have done this swap before on what they did and what would recomend useing for a rear and where would be the best place for me to look (ebay isnt helping much right now) thank you

moser, strange, or curries are about your only options. think i'd look at getting the empty housing and then filling it with the parts i wanted to use. the parts are easier to find than the houseing plus it'd make shipping less.

i never thought about peicing it together but that would make more sense thanks for advise

Axle/Gears: 3.73, 3.90, 4.88, 3.55, 3.54, 7.00
Definately, the housing and axels are the only 3rd gen specific part. The rest of the rear is standard 9" fare which is very common and easy to price shop.

Axle/Gears: Moser 9"/4.11 Trac-Lok
That's what I did. Got mine from Moser, housing, axles, & torque arm bracket. A buddy of mine gave me a center section from a full size Bronco, I used that for a while & later upgraded to a Strange street/strip setup I put together from new parts I bought on Ebay.
Keep in mind your rear brakes will not fit. I got used backing plates from a mid 80's Caprice with 9.5" drums & bought new shoes, cylinders & hardware for the same application. You can reuse your F-body brake drums.
