New 700r4 slips in 3rd/4th with converter unlocked
my new 700r4 slips in 3rd/4th when the torque converter is unlocked it slips 1k rpms when you give it some gass. when it's locked there is no slippage at all, you can gass it and the car pulls and the rpms stay steady. plus my torque converter hasn't been locking most of the time, and when it's not unlocked it slips like a mother. it still grabs enogh to move the car forward but it has way too much slip in it the more gass you give it the more it slips. Lets say i'm crusing at 70 mph in OD and the rpms are at 2000and i give it 1/3 throttle the rpms shoot up to 3,000 and stay there until you back off the gass. What could this be. it might be possible that the mechanic that was working on it may have put a checkball that goes in the pan gasket in the wrong place. would this cause thees symptoms? please help me this trans has already given me enough crap and i just want it to work right for once. Thanks scott

yeah i have a warranty for this trans. i just got it back from the shop there was a stuck valave in the valvebody and it wouldn't shift from first to second/third/fourth. now it shifts great1-2 is great and the 2-3 shift is real firm too. but it slips real bad when the converter is unlocked. could this be cause the checkballs aren't in the correct place or does it sound like the trans itself isn't doing it's job? Thanks again, Scott
