Flywheel for T56...
Well, my trans is just about dead, and I have the old T56 laying around from my old car. I know everything else I need for the swap, but what flywheel? It is the original engine in my 86.

Axle/Gears: 3.73, 3.90, 4.88, 3.55, 3.54, 7.00
Centerforce or McLeod. You've got a 2-piece RMS and a T56, so you need a custom flywheel. It will be a 153 tooth flywheel, so make sure you've got the right starter (staggered bolt pattern).

I bought my McLeod flywheel from Summit I think, or maybe it was PAW. Get the steel one. I used the aluminum one and was not happy with it. Too light to keep any interia going in the engine, makes it a little bit of a chore to drive ont he street.
As far as RMS go, check before ordering. There's no way to be 100% certain without a visual verification. My '86 had a 2-piece RMS engine.

Does anyone have a definite answer? Its not exactly something I can just pull apart and see what one I need. I need to get this swap done in 1 day since its my daily driver...

Does anyone think it's possible to verify your RMS type by removing the inspection cover?

I would think that if you had access to the casting numbers for the block you could determine it, but otherwise it's a crap shoot. I don't have casting numbers on anything that new, or production (I have them for Bow Tie and service replacement blocks though).

You could pull off the inspection cover & look to see if the cast aluminum housing that holds the 1 pcs RMS is there. You may need a mirror to see up there.

Yeah, you could try that, or measure the width of the oil pan where it mounts to the block. The 1-piece motors have a much wider scallp in that area to clear the seal adapter.
