TC lockup switch.. Cant find it??

I seem to have an electrical gremlin residing in my TC lockup wiring. It's never locked up like it should. Once it locked up for a little while, then nothing again. When I disconected the vacuum switch and used a wire to short the terminals on the plug that plugs into it, it locked just fine. So that leads me to believe the switch is at fault, but I cant find a replacement ANYWHERE. Four parts stores said they had no idea what I was talking about. After a bunch of searching the boards I found a part number 14015419 but I'm not sure if this is the right part, and gmpartsdirect.com doesn't recognize it. Can anyone verify that's the corect part?

where is this vacuum switch that you refer to. as far as i know, the only way vacuum plays a part in the tranny on our cars is through the cruise control/brake switch if that. so that when brakes are applied, the cruise control and the tc both disengage. but i thought this was done through a signal with the ecm. the only factory tc switch is in the tranny itself along with the lockup solenoid. these switches ground the signal from the ecm so that it activates the solenoid. you may have an aftermarket set up if you have vacuum directly related to your lock up which explains why you can't find the part.

i just looked at the post you found the part number in. it is a vacuum switch for lock-up in a NON-computer controlled car. yours factory would have been computer controlled. that is why the parts stores can't find it.

He's from Canada, forget everything you thought you knew about LG4s being computer controlled.

That number should work, IIRC it's for an 82 with a TH200C or something. The only difference will be in the vacuum level the switch locks and unlocks at, but nothing major. You'll have to call a dealer for the switch, or call Lordco and give them the GM part number as an AC Delco number. If you've got time to search through junkyards, TCC vacuum switches were also used on trucks and vans with the 700R4.

Ok, thanks. So it would just take a little more/less pedal to get it to unlock.. That's fine. I actually went to Lordco yesterday and got absolutely no help. The lady I spok with had no idea what I was talking about, but at least she trid. She brought out a big metal deal that looked like it belonged on a distributer. Heh.

I'm home for christmas starting today, so I will have to go check the junkyard while I'm back.

Just one question.. how do you give the GM part number as a Delco number? Is it a prefix or sufix you add, or do you just say it's a Delco number?

Yeah trying to get any kind of vacuum emissions control on the aftermarket can be pretty difficult unless you have exact part numbers.

Just tell them you want an "AC Delco 14015419".
