Corvette servo worth it?
On a stock 700R4 tranny? What exactly does this do and is it really worth the money?
I heard it improves acceleration from 1-2 shift and maybe 2-3 shift, I honestly don't know that much about it. I looked on ebay for a few and they are selling cheap, around 17 bucks with shipping cost included...
Is it possible for a guy like me to install it or is it better to have someone install it for me? Any input is appreciated.

The corvette servo applies more pressure to the 2-4 band. More pressure equals better holding power. With the same line pressure the band now grips tighter. That lessens slippage of the band and gives a firmer shift. Works well. I went with the billet servo that has more holding power than the vette servo. Catching rubber shifting into 2nd above 1/2 throttle is standard equipment. Oh, my band is Kevlar as well which further firms things up.

I didnt realize they were that cheap. Having found that out, I just ordered one on ebay for about $12 (buy it now). There are still more on there at that price, too.

Just make sure there's no other problem with your tranny BEFORE you install it. My tranny slipped on 2-3 shift, I thought maybe this servo might buy some time because of the "2-4 firmness" mentioned above, and I tried it - now I have fluid running out the front (servo blew the new front seal I installed 2 months ago). I'm assuming this is because I had pressure problems beforehand (thus the slipping) and the install of the vette servo made too much pressure where I didn't need it. Tranny still slips on 2-3, so I'm beating a dead horse - anyone wanna donate a nicely built 700R4? LOL

my tranny is in good working order, but what i am wondering is if this corvette servo will in any way damage the tranny or make it weak.

i wouldn't expect so unless installed improperly.
It does seem to happen that when rebuilding and modifying be it an engine or tranny though your modifcations always seem to show your week points more afterwards though. Then again i don't have the greatest of luck.

How many miles is too many miles to install one? I have about 91K on my 700R4 with an unkown brand shiftkit. It chirps 2nd with ease but has a soft 2nd-3rd shift. No slipping though. WOT 2nd-3rd hits very hard like the car is going to fall apart.

nobodys going to tell you that a certain ammount of miles are to many....... (well if they do they are retarded anyways lol).
Way to many variables on the wear of 1 over the other. If it was taken care of well you shouldn't have any problems at all...... That is my opinion for all it's worth. I think with my christmas money i may get the .500 boost valve and corvette servo. Maybe some other doodads i suppose.
My sister has a 2000 malibu that is shot and a complete pos and i have a 1992 camaro in 2xs as nice condition with 142k on the odometer and i trust my car much more than i ever will hers with 89k on it.

my transmission has been maintained very well, the fluid is still pink no sign of slippage at all.
Granted in its younger years the car was driven pretty rough but all in all it was maintained properly to keep the tranny going...
I am considering ordering the piece now but I am not yet sure...we will see.

With this Performance Shift Kit we include the .500 main boost valve, .296
intermediate/reverse boost valve, the Corvette servo with the latest
Viton apply seals and cover & guide seal. The Trans-Go accumulator kit
has been added to eliminate 1-2 part throttle bang shifts. With this accumulation setup, you can have nice 1-2 part throttle shifts, along with firm full throttle shifts.
You get a lot more.

The tranny does not have to be dropped to install - it is installed on the pass side, under a round cover about 3 inches in diameter - you'll see it there. You might have to loosen the crossmember to get enough working room, I had to. You also need help, as someone has to pry on the tranny (towards the driver side) while the other does the install. There is an explaination in the tech articles section on this site.

There are a number of servos that work well.... I found that most factory Z28's already had the corvette style servo from the factory. You might wanna pull the cover off and inspect before you place an order. I recently have been installing the new TCI jumbo servos coupled with the 4th gear performance servo and they seem to work awsome!

hmm after looking into this i think i may get the corvette servo as well (in the springtime when i take my car out of hibernation). It sounds like an awesome purchase...and even sounds simple to install, however i have 2 questions:
1. When shifting your transmission over to help get the servo in, does that mess with anything on the transmission or loosen its connection to the car?
2. The corvette servos on ebay, what brand are they? This mod is inexpensive enough that i would want to get an OEM ACDelco servo. Are the ones on ebay delco or do i have to go through my dealer to get a delco one?

This "servo" is simply an aluminum disc with an O-ring on it. Most I've seen are stamped made in taiwan (what isn't?). There's not enough to it to worry about a brand name - as long as the o-ring is good.
And yes, you have to remove the crossmember bolts to pry the tranny towards driver side, so you are loosening it from the car - there's 4 bolts, take 'em out, push tranny to get clearance (I also had to let mine drop slightly), install servo, rebolt crossmember bolts. Just put a jack under tranny so it doesn't drop enough to crack dizzy cap on firewall.

i believe the transgo "corvette" servos are oem parts. they have an oem type number stamped on them. they seem to "look" better than they're taiwan counterparts.
