transmission :(

So My car went into the tranny shop a few days ago, and they came back to me today saying that when we hooked up my new motor, we didnt put the torque converter in all the way or something like that, and it fried the pump. I dont know anything about transmissions so i thought id ask yall. Does that sound reasonable? The torque converter was bolted to the flywheel, and the tranny was bolted to the block; could there be room for error in there? Im gonna go check it out tomorrow, any feedback would help!

I know that when you hook up the converter that you need to make sure that you have it in all the way. put it on and spin it to make sure that it is on, it will have like a little clunk. a freind of mine did not do that and when he tightend up the bolts for the trans to the motor it broke a seal. thats all I know about breakage with a tc.
