Flywheel Torgue Coverter Tolorance
Lost reverse in a 4-year old 4L60E. The new one is from ProBuilt and is a "Road Race" HD version with plety of goodies. The torque coverter is a 9.5" with an adapter ring welded on.
We had it bolted to the engine block and measured our tolorance between the coverter and flywheel. (was told anything within 120 thousands is fine) Theres like a damn quarter inch gap... anyways the trans guy said to use high-grade flat washers for spacers. (making sure they're HIGH grade for i don't want any varying thicknesses!) Probably a good idea to get some longer high grade bolts as well.
Is this wise? I searched all over and haven't found anyone else with such an issue. The trans guy said he hasn't had to install spacers in 10 years.
That doesn't sound right at all. Do I need to send this tranny back to the builder? (After the first one had a caked bellhousing durring shipping...)
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

thats a common problem with aftermarket torque convertors and even factory ones too. i work at a transmission speciality shop and we install both factory clear up to 2500 hp race transmissions. general rule of thumb we go by is 3/8 to 1/4 inch. Preferibly be around the lower end of the scale. Theres no problem using grade 8 washers in there to space it a little. like i said its a common practice. 1/4 inch is MAX!

The converter is from Edge. Apparently it doesn't need shims... bolted it up with out any issues that I know of.
Thanks
