700r4 converter opinion please!!
Hey everyone, I'm looking at buying a torque converter for my 700r4 and have around $500 to spend, and am curious on what everyone would recomend. I don't want to have to buy twice! are brands like edge or west coast converters any good? How much would a yank cost? I've got a 355, 10.2:1 compression, 230 and 236 duration at .050", 3.73 gears, 750 dp carb.
I would greatly appriciate any input... Thanks Luke

The best advice I can offer, is call the converter companies, and chat with them, and see what they recommend. Cam specs and vehicle weight, H.P., and torque are important factors to determine a converter. I'm currently waiting for my new Edge converter to arrive.

Edge or Hughes. I'm a fan of Hughes. Had too many problems with Vigillante, Yank and Mid West. Only had a couple customer with Edge converters and they run good MPH, the converters are pretty effiecient but they suck out of the hole. Put in a Hughes and picked up a couple .1's in the 60'
At least 3000 for your application, like said, call the company that you choose b/c there's more to a converter than the stall speed.

word of mouth seems to be a good thing sometimes. I have called a few of the companies and talked to them, but they are always trying to sell their products, and don't always tell their weaknesses. So I thought I would see what others have been using and how they hold up. If a certain brand had problems people would know and tell others not to buy and make a mistake. It looks like edge is the one to go with.
thanks

thanks everyone for the input. I will probably get an edge in the next week or so. can't wait to see the difference it makes. I'm adding the converter and long tube headers at the same time, so i'm sure it will be a whole different car this year! I ran 12.9 at 107 two years ago, and last year put protopline heads on. so i'll be really excited to get to the track this year
