Hey. I have a 5 speed swap that I am buying tomorrow. It has bellhousing, clutch, pressure plate, pedals, shifter, everything minus hydraulics. This is out of a 92 Trans am 5.0 Litre.
Only $400. I just need to know if that is an acceptable deal. I will need a slave and master cylinder, but do I need any lines, or anything else. Is the starter the same?
Also I have an analog dash, cable driven... So what would I be able to do. Can I possible get the sender from a non electronic speedo trans, and swap that over, or is it as easy as just swapping a new cluster from 85+ trans am.
I know all about dakota digital, but that is too expensive. I don't want to spend the cash just to know my speed. I would rather get a new speedo that accepts the signal, and go custom cluster.
Please forgive me, but I haven't really done a lot of research on this before the boards wend down, and I can't search right now, and the tech article is also down. Please let me know tonight, because if I am going to buy the transmission, I need to know by tomorrow. If not having the hydraulics is enough reason to not buy it, let me know. Thanks a lot.

$400 is a great deal for everything you're getting. As far as the speedo goes, I'd just put the standard cable style speedo bullet in the trans and keep your cable speedo. That'd probably be the simplest and cheapest way to go. Btw, the speedo cable bullet in the T5's is the same one they used in the old muncies and saginaws, T10's, etc., so it's really easy to get one. The hydraulics aren't too terribly hard to come by either. As long as the trans is in good working order I'd say go for it for the price you stated.

great! That is what I was hoping. I thought I might be able to swap to make the trans work for manual speedo. I can get one pretty easy if it is the same as the old muncie's.
I just hope that this is a sound investment instead of getting a t-56 now. I figure that the pedals will swap over when I go 6 speed, and I can probably sell the trans to recoup costs.
Thanks. BTW I am still not sure if the starter is the same between manual and auto. I am decided on getting a pro 5.0 shifter though. I hope the search comes back up so I can look for some other stuff.
Also will the new poly trans mount I just bought swap over to the 5 speed. I got it for the 700r4. This will be fun figuring out how to swap into an 82. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks.

Heh, I totally feel your pain dude! I'm straddling the same fence myself. For me it's the cost issue since there's huge difference between what you'll spend for a T5 setup vs. a T56 setup. I'm pretty sure the trans mount works for either auto or manual trannys. It seems like I remember reading somewhere on here that the starters are different. I know somebody on the boards knows for sure on that, or you could always go to a parts store website and see if both applications share the same part#, or different part#'s. As far as pedals go, you just need a set from any 84-92 with the hydraulic clutch mechanism. These pedals also work fine with the T56 from what I've read on here. Good luck with your swap!

never mind
I guess I was too excited. The trans is acctually out of an 84 trans am. I ran the numbers. 1352-059, I think it was.
Non-world class, so I won't buy it. I guess I am going to buy some seats with the $400.
I am disapointed though. I was looking forward to the swap.
The pedals the guy had were a modified auto set. The auto brake pedal was there, and it rubbed the clutch pedal when you used it. It looked fine, but a little wierd with the auto brake pedal there.
Too bad. I will go off on my next adventure to find a manual trans.
Next I will prob get shafted with a 93 6 speed. "I swear it came out of a 95"
Thanks for your help Pat.
