Another Megashifter question

Again, because the function is down.

I picked up a used console Megashifter (shouldn't have in hindsight, but that's what I've got). No instructions, so printed off the .pdf doc. They mention a template for the indicator/boot plate, which I also didn't get, and which isn't part of the instructions.

The plate matches the rear screw holes of the stock console, but the front holes of the plate go to open space.

How is the stock cover supposed to be modified?

it's been a long time since I had a 3rd gen console in my camaro, but I do remember cutting off a considerable amount of my factory shift indicator plate and then installing the B&M one over it and screwed it into the factory one. I would imagine laying the B&M one over the factory one you could kinda guesstimate where to cut, I had to install and remove it 4 or 5 times to get it to line up halfway decent. I believe tunedport335 or whatever his name is off these board with the ghost flamed car has some excellent pics on his cardomain site of the console area to get a better idea on how it lines up. Hope this helps somewhat.

I installed a new one into my TA and I cut out a hole in the top of the console with a die grinder and removed the old shift indicator in order to make the shifter plate set properly. I had to drill 4 new holes for the mounting screws.

Was that per the instructions/template, or just how you got yours to work?

Appreciate the replies.

Yay! The sight is back up!!

The instructions said that some cutting may be required. I wish that I still had them. I installed it a year and a half ago.

Yes, i need help with this aswell. Been driving around with that ugly little gap and so on. Also, how did you (five7kid) wire your shifter? I (like an idoit), cut the stock shifter harness and mated some wires to it and the relay, which turnout to be a mess. I can start in all gears and back-ups don't come on. Any suggestions? Can i install it without relay? Would make a loy easier i believe.

One of the microswitch mount holes is slotted for adjustment. However, you have to adjust them together, and I couldn't get both of them to work properly with one adjustment. I ended up tweaking the backup light switch arm so it would work properly when the neutral safety was adjusted properly.

The template would be great, if you could find it. How the template looks on the stock shifter plate is one thing not covered in the instructions.

So Five7Kid, did you wire the stock harness straight to the shifter or with the relay?

Ok. Will give it a shot today. Any news on how the shifter plate should be mounted?

I was hoping someone would have the template, or a pic of what they did to their cover. I still haven't accomplished this final task yet.

I think I might actually have the template still, its been a while, but might stil lbe in my garage somewhere. As for the front screws, i broke some of those clips that you can screw into in half and epoxied it to the back of the console plate where the megashifter plate screws into, holds it on a little better i think.

I'll look tonight.

did you ever get this done?

I found the template and took some pics/measurements...

I will try to post them a little later, if I can't and you haven't finished this, I will email them to you.

when you guys mounted your shifter to the body, did you have a problem with the shifter popping the underside of the shifter plate that b&m supplied? i did at first, then i cut that piece that runs across the center of the console (under hatch release) moved the shifter back, then i believe i turned the front shifter bracket opposite of what b&m said and it works perfect. i also have a problem with the front two holes not lining up with anything. (for the time being) i wedged a couple of those quick nut clips in between the gap in the console cover and ran screws through. i plan on getting a piece of plexiglass in the future and cutting it out a little wider than the shifter plate and mounting it in, to take the gap out around it. also i cut the stock shifter plate at the ashtray (its now alot easier to take the stereo out!). there is a small gap, but it will be fixed when i make that plexiglass piece.
hope that helps anyone

i must have gotten lucky. i didn't have half the problems you guys have had. i had to tweak my backup and neutrl switches as five7kid did, but that was it.
