Clutch cable? on a 700r4? are you sure you do not mean a TV cable? if so.. it is possible one of two things has happened.. either they did not adjust it. or they did not install it right. More than likely it is an adjustment.. you can reallly screw things up and have a tranny act messed if it is not adjusted right.
Also.. are you running the stock quadrajet carb? Are you running a holley carb? just wanting to check.. as I do not know what all has been done to the car.. If it is running a holley carb, do you have the Holley 20-121 bracket on the carb? (I will take a picture of mine at some point and put it up.. just have to find my camera) I made mine.. but it looks idenntical right down the the holes..(used another person's as a template.)

yea then it would definitely be the adjustment.. or if they failed in the installation of the cable into the trans. (really simple if they dropped it.. pretty much a PITA if it is left fully in the car.)
As for the brakets. if you are sticking o the FI side of things and not going carb it will not matter.. But if you do go with a holley carb setup. then the below picture will show you the part that is absolutely required if you want to run the 700r4 transmission without burning it up.

The TV cable is not a self adjuster either.. but i fund it was ALOT easier to adjust and have it work right.. I made that bracket using an original as a template. The thottle cable should be up where the red arrow pints.. but i have not gotten the huge throttle thing that it fits on yet.

Not going into park wouldn't have anything to do with the TV cable - maybe he's referring to the shifter cable - I installed a brand new one that was bad from the start, and I didn't have park either - might need a new shifter cable - put car in park with engine off, and crawl under driver side and see if the lever on the tranny will still move forward - if the lever moves forward with some force, then your shifter cable is not "pushing it" hard enough - needs new shifter cable.

Ok, Its the shifter cable that was replaced then...
Could be improperly adjusted...
Lucky it wasnt the TV cable misadjusted that could get expensive!

There's no adjustment in the shifter cable - they are a set length and sealed. If you put the shifter in park, and can still move the lever on the tranny forward, then the shifter cable just needs replaced. If you tear into one far enough to see the actual cable, then chances are it's not reusable.
Remove it from the tranny, then from shifter, then pull up though floor. Replace from the top side, connecting to the shifter first. Shifter cables usually in stock at Autozone and Advance.
OH - ONE MORE TIP - IF you need during the install to twist the cable even slightly to get it through the floorpan hole, or to get it attached to the tranny lever, always twist clockwise - twisting counterclockwise goes against the twist in the braided cable inside, which will unravel the braiding inside the housing, and will ruin it.

actually you can adjust the shifter cable.. about an inch.. that is why the hole nin the trans thing is slotted.. and they say the best way to adjust it is in neutral. then make sure it goes all the way to 1 and all the way into park. if it hits 1 but does not go to park.. then you have to adjust it back. That is common when putting them in.. else there would just be a hole in the trans thing for a bolt to fit in and that would be it.. it would not be slotted.
