Typical side effects of a dieing tranny?
Just wondering if theirs any common signs when a 700r4 is on its way out... (never had the joys of killing a 700R4 myself)
Im wanting to put the 700R4 out of my parts car into my turd when i drop the new motor in. I wanted to do the usual shift kit, vette servo, .47/.50 boost valve and the sleeve for WOT 4th shift while its all out and apart.
Problem is...
When i got the car the cooler lines were smashed to bits and all the ATF was out of the tranny. I have no clue how long it was out of ATF and how long it ran without it, i do know the car hasnt been registered in 11 years so that leaves me to believe thats how long this has been sitting.
I made some new lines for it, dumped a few 4L jugs of ATF in it and all seemed good. I have yet to actually move the car as it was stuck in the snowbank since the day i had it towed here and my insurance company wont insure it without an inspection. So im just going to throw the plate off of my turd on it to drive the car over to the shop where ill be dismantling it for parts. Its a pretty short drive so i dont have much time to look out for problems...
Anyways, i dont want to drop any cash on this tranny if im going to have to pull it out and put my TH350C back in the car in a week. So hopefully i can figure out in a very short time if this tranny is half decent or not.
Sorry for the longa$$ post!

Well, I have seen them just stop working all together, I have seen them start to slip in 1st then 2nd and on up until the only gear left is reverse. I have also seen them lock up while driving. It is impossible to tell what is going to happen becuase the weakest part is going to be the first and it all depends on what breaks first.

I guess if it seems t work half decent on the drive over to the shop i will take my chances with it...
Hopefully it doesnt give out on me, i want to take this car down to Alberta this summer. Its just under 5000km there and back!
