Transmission: 700R4

what transmission

is there anyway i could tell what kind of transmission i have just by looking at it? 1 guy told me it was a th400 and another told me it was a 700r4 (he didnt even look at it just told me because it came standard in the 3rd gen)

Does it have 3 or 4 forward gears?

and what shape is the transmission's oil pan?

4 gears square shape pan, 400 only has 3 gears right?

Axle/Gears: 12 bolt/4.11

Yes the 400 has only 3 gears and the 700r4 has 4 gears.

16 pan bolts on the 700.
