I can't answer for everybody else, but....

I'm totally unable to read people's minds, because I'm sofakingdom I guess. So I'm for sure too dom to be able tell you why it is that people lie to you, to get you interested in paying them the price of something good, when the thing they actually have is garbage. Although I've observed it time and again; for instance people buy cars with 350s in them, but when they get their new pride and joy home and try to buy parts, they discover that the motor has magically changed to a 305 during the short drive; or they pay "Vette" price for some common garbage like 624 heads or something, that could have come off of an Impala just as easily as it could have come from a Vette.

I suggest, for a more complete study of this behavior, you should take some psychology courses during your college education. Perhaps those will help you understand this dishonesty.

As far as going from the 2.7whatever rear, I guess that whether you could tell a difference, would depend somewhat on what you went TO. However, even with as much difference as any such change could possibly make, I doubt that it by itself will make some 305 TBI or some 6-cylinder car very much less non-competitive.
