Hi,

Is there anyone out there doing a swap from a 700R4 to a T56 and still have the traany out and the holes cut for the shifter and the firewall? If so and you still have the pedals off and brake booster slid away, would you be willing to make a template for the holes. I an not a avid mechanic and worried about cutting the firewall. I am also the **** type who likes everything to look stock. Now if there are no takers for the templates would the holes in the firewall be exactly like the ones found in all T5 cars?

I would say yes, though I am not positive. Check the previous posts as someone has put a gasket template on here. Also in tech articales I believe there is a complete swap articale for the T56.

Try here! I was unable to download the template as the computor did not recognize the bitmap, but check it out!

Get the two brackets that go from the pedal shaft bolt, down to the master clutch cylinder U bolt. Tighten them up, remove the carpet, and swing them down to the firewall.

Use your master cylinder to make a template. I made my out of cardboard. Use the U bolt to locate the holes, and then put a hole in the cardboard and make it bigger until you can slide it over the master. I used a 1 3/4" holesaw in the end.

Then go put the U bolt holes of carboard, under the 2 brackets from the pedals, and mark where you need to drill.

For the transmission.... You HAVE to put the trans up there, and mark the hole with the trans up there. If you don't, you'll probably end up cutting more anyway. If I cut it where I thought it should go, it would have been a disaster.

Make sure you mount it to the crossmember when you do this too. My whole engine/trans setup somehow pointed too far to the passenger side, making the Driveline look more like a Z than a straight line, so I had to use a bottle jack to push the trans center back to the center of the car.
