Will second gen gears swap in for thrid gen gears. I have a firend who will give me his 3.73 gears he has for his 1981 camaro and I am curious if I can swap them out with my 2.73 gears. THanks

2nd gen is a 8.5", 3rd is 7.5".

 

The guy who is giving me the gears said they were also 7.5". He said the gears changed in the later second gen camaros, but wasn't sure if it would be a direct swap or not. So other if these are 7.5" is that the only thing I need to be concerned with?? THanks for the help.

 

There were no 7.5" in 2nd gen F cars. Didn't happen.

However if they really are 7.5", then they'll work in your 3rd gen. You'll either need a 3 series carrier though, or a spacer. Unless those are the "special" thick gears.

Measure them and see what size they are.
