The 200c is the worst auto tranny available in any third gen. First, it is not OD so highway mileage sucks. Second, it is not very strong compared to other non-OD trannies like the T350 and T400 but it should be strong enough for a 2.8 as it did come on some early V8 models, including my Trans Am

There is nothing wrong with the 200c design. It’s a good transmission for what it was designed to do, true it’s not as strong as a turbo 350/400 but it’s not suppose to be. It does have lower internal rotational resistance. That means there is less parasitic power lose through the transmission, when you only have 120 hp that is a good thing. It’s also lighter for better for fuel economy. In the early 80’s fuel economy was all the rage.
People tend not to like it because of lack of overdrive and it’s not as strong. I have a 200c in my 1982 T\A and it work great, even after 120K miles. As long as it’s maintained correctly (as with anything) it should last as long as any Turbo 350/400.
