HELP no 2-3 WOT shift

in have an 88 formula with 700R4 previous owner installed B&M shift kit(level 2 street/strip) and replaced tbi with performer intake and 600 holley. trans shifting was all screwed up due to incorrect TV cable geometry

i installed new factory TV cable for carb car and Holley TV cable bracket for holley carb and 700R4, also Holley throttle corrector for 700R4 cable, I cleaned valve body and checked that shift kit was installed correctly and the B&M recommended check ***** were in the correct location.

tranny now shifts fine all but will not 2-3 shift at WOT until you let out of throttle

1-2 WOT is about 5200 rpm consistant and part throttle shifts are fine

anybody got any ideas

Did it shift before? It's a very common problem with older 700R4's and usually the transgo kit will fix the problem 90% of the time where as the B&M kit will just make it shift harder. The B&M kit just jacks up line pressure and block the accumulator function for hard shifts. The trasngo kit actually fixes known problems and replaces components to aid in shift quality. If you do a quick search on the board you will find probably 3,000 or more posts on the subject. How certain are you that it is an 88 transmission? Did it have the AUX valve body? If you still have the rest of the kit and the peices that were taken out I suggest you put the spring back in the line bias valve and toss the blocker rod unless your a fan of fragged clutches.

I don't know how well it shifted before. It is an 88 trans and does have aux valve body. I know I am gonna have to build the trans soon or find one to build up. Over the weekend I was doing some test and tune of my 305 with a 100 shot of N02 and tranny slipped like crazy on 1-2 shift. Still doesn't slip on motor alone though so I have some time to build me one up right.

Any suggestions on what non stock mods and parts I need in a 700R4 to handle say 450 or so max horsepower?

Do a quick search for Probuilt and talk to Dana. He will get you on the right path.
