do i need a torque converter?

i have an 85 T/A with an 89 vette engine in it and tranny(with a shift kit) the engine has rockers, cam, headers, aluminum heads, 4thgen rear end 3.42 gears, i drive it daily, and don't take it to the track much but i will soon, i do street race though with a bunch of others, a torque converter never came across my mind and do i need one or not what you guys think thanks.

Every automatic has a torque converter.

Depends if you have an automatic transmission or not. Since you do have an automatic trans, you already have a torque converter. Now if you're asking if you need a higher stall converter to match what you've done to the engine, specs of the parts would be handy.

the cam is a zz4 cam and the heads are the stock aluminum heads that come on a 89 corvette, there D port heads(don't know if that helps). the stock torque converter on the vette i was told has about a 2100 stall which i think is good enough for daily driving and then racing at the same time. my stock one came with like 1400 i think not sure though.
