is a 4x4 transmission useable?
I'm interested in buying a 350 but it comes with a transmission that has 4x4, will I be able to use that tranny without the front wheels? I've never touched a 4 wheel before but fear that I';ll probably have to have some sort of either an axel or the but end of an axel somehow which I can put in so the tranny fluid doesn't come out. Has anyone ever tried this?
for both of them with 64,000 original highway KM and rebuild(not sure when) for 1000$ is this something I should stay away from anyoone?

A 4wd transmission won't fit because of the shorter output shaft. 4wd vehicles have a transfer case bolted to the transmission instead of a tailshaft housing like a RWD vehicle has.
yes, but no. The trans is essentially the same, the output shaft is different. To change the output shaft, you have too completely disassemble the trans. The transmission itself has nothing to do with the 4wd. The transfer case that bolts to the trans has the output for the front drive, which is bolted in-place of a tailhousing, which is why it uses a different output shaft.
- so, you would need a 2wd output shaft, tailhousing, and the ability & tools to completely disassemble and re-assemble the trans.

I've never tried taking apart a tranny but do you know what tools I would need (specialty ones) I'm pretty handy and LOVE takin crap apart even if it takes a few months to go back together, I just like knowing how it works.
and in case you can't tell i'm not afraid of a challenge like a tranny hehehe

I'd buy the engine without the trans, or sell it/trade it to someone for the transmission you want. Th350s are cheap and common, but the 4x4 version would be worth something for an offroad guy.
