Aluminum DriveShft hitting torque arm?

My car came with a steel drive shaft and I had an aluminum one put in. My car is not a daily driver, and I heard a sound when my car rolled forward, I thought maybe it was the rear brakes (since they aren't used much)... the mechanic guy today that was working on the starter heard it and asked, and when he looked he asked about the aluminum driveshaft. He said it's bigger than stock and the balancing weight is hitting the torque arm. He suggested a different rear trans mount (smaller I assume to fix this.

Anyone else run into this, do they sell such a tranny mount?

Thanks,
Rafael

Although I don't have an aluminum drive shaft, I've never heard of one hitting the torque arm before. The aluminum shaft was stock in alot of these cars. Did he have the car jacked by the body or by the wheels? With the rear hanging down, it looks like all drive shafts would hit the torque arm, and it looks like the drive shaft hits the exhaust as well - but with the weight back on, and the rear tucked up in the fenders, and the torque arm back up in the tunnel, there's ususally a ton of room in there. Was there definite evidence of it rubbing, like a mark on the torque arm?

I assume he saw a mark on the torque arm... we were pushing the car (not running) and he hard the noise....

We raised the car, then he crawled underneath to shim the starter...

The car does have aftermarket LCA's and Panhard bar, Bilstien shocks, but not lowered...

I'll do a little more checking this weekend and look for myself.

Re: Aluminum DriveShft hitting torque arm?

I just intalled the aluminum drive shaft in my 92 with a 700r4 and my is hitting the bracken on the body that holds the p brake cable. I'm going to have to cut or bend the bracket to fix the problem

Re: Aluminum DriveShft hitting torque arm?

i have a 3.5" aluminum driveshaft and it does not rub on anything.
not the stock torque arm, not my UMI torque arm, if lower the car another inch, it may start to rub e-brake parts, but that would be a little lower than sportlines
