about how many quarts of atf does it take to fill a completely empty 700r4,usually i put a quart in the converter before installing it, so 1 for the converter and then however many do you think it will take to fill it the rest of the way. it is an old converter not a new one, drained the most out of it i could

It took me about 11 quarts on a totally empty tranny with a new empty converter. The only way to get it in is to work it in slowly - dump it in until you get it right on the stick, then start, and while holding brake, run through the gears (all of them) slowly, then put in park, and check fluid and add as needed. When you get it where it seems to stay filled, then drive it (maybe in a circle in parking lot), then put in park and check again, add as needed. Then maybe a trip around the block, put in park, and add as needed. Keep checking it often and on short runs through all the gears for awhile until it levels out and is full. It's really a guessing game until you get it full, then you've answered your own question.
