700r4 to TH-400

What I'am I going to have to do to put a Turbo 400 into my 91 RS that has a 700r4 in it.

Ive figured this so far...
Mounting kit
u-joints
possibly new drive shaft? since they're different sizes?

How much would you guys estimate to do all this? Not including labor

the 400 doesn't fit the tunnel very well so be prepared to move/modify some metal. I'd go with the th350(I have one) and save the parisitic power loss and be able to work on it as well. You can get an early crossmember for a turbo 350 or build your own and even use a factory driveshaft from an 82/83 car too if you don't want to have one built(I have a denny's in mine) The 400 is just to big and heavy to deal with from my perspective. I ran a full tilt 350 in my 65 chevelle for years with a 496 and never broke it. I killed the 400 that the 350 replaced though...... grenaded the pump and killed the case with a t-brake

Yeah, you know its funny how many people have been telling me the same exact thing. I think I'am going to consider looking into buying a T-350. So if I bought a 350 instead would I still have as much trouble getting it in the car? I don't really want to do any major mods...I know I'am going to have to buy the conversion kit from jegs.

- as fo the T400 swap, there's a sticky at the top of this board.

the T350 takes less hp to pull and has less rotational weight, which both equal more hp to the wheels. - I've seen plenty of T350 in cars up to around 800hp. I'm sure at that power level they were more than mildly built, but as I said, they take less power to pull.

- A 700r4 is moe expensive to build porperly, but is MUCH more street friendly and can be built to handle around 700hp if done properly. - PATC(raptor) is supposed to have one rated for 1000hp by the end of the year.
