alright..somethin very very weird with this T5 seems to go through the gears just fine when not running, start it up , have it in neutral with the clutch in, put it in any gear, and let the clutch out the car will die...without moving...whats wrong?? seriously dont want to buy a new tranny

Sounds to me like somebody's been working on it; and didn't get it put back together right; and when you put it in a gear with the shifter, it's actually in 2 gears.
You can tell what gear the shifter is incorrectly assembled to, by putting the shifter in neutral and seeing what gear it's still in. Not that it really matters, since the cure for any misassembly is the same (remove, take apart, put back together right, put back in); except to do better quality control, and pay particular attention to whichever one got fornicated last time.

well see, we got it from this guy and he said he put a new clutch in it...and it was dandy....but he said the tranny was still a little sketchy, so when we got it home we took it out on the gravel and gave it hell...then it started to get stuck and couldnt get it out of gear like it is now or whatever, and we ended up driving it home in 3rd i think...and tried it the next day and took off in first fine and the it went shitty again????? what the hell

Ya don't wanna keep trying it as it will just get stuck in gear again. I went through the same stuff, ended up getting stuck in 4th and 5th.
Had to drive home like a mad man blowing lights. Took a good solid 5 mins to get the car just rolling enough in 5th to start moving.
Thats a race I would win every time, 5th gear drag racing at its best.
One inch at a time.

Come to NW Ohio, you can get them used all day for $100-125
Usually only $125 if they are low.
A used trans isn't worth much more then that n e ways.
Dunno what all will fit, they should know what you need.
Lots of car makers used the T5 but the 3rd gen one the shifter is on a angle.
Place I got mine from said that if I wanted it to last, use straight 30 weight oil in it. 80-90 is to thick and ATF GM says to use is to thin. 30w falls in the middle well of providing good cushion for gears but thin enough to flow well in the bearings.
There are several threads here in that what fluid to use.
Some use 80-90
Some use ATF [GAm and service book say to use ATF, yep even though its a stick]
Some use a mix of both.
I use sraight 30w oil.
Only thing I could get from polling folks around here is those guys with big power and a normal T5 change the fluid with their oil like clock work. Though some guy with a puny 305 rip the guts out of a T5 every other week. I could never pin down what fluid was best for those with more then stock engine and a reg T5. Fluid didn't seem to matter but how you drive. Post is here somewhere

The only way you're going to get a T5 for $100-125 is if it's a V6 T5. I know, I've tried in Central OH when I had one blow on Saturday on a race weekend. Anyone that had a V8 T5 wanted $400+ so I had to go get a WC V6 T5 for $100 and a $100 for a V6 clutch kit (for the disc) to use it so I could get back out.
Only T5s out of F-bodies and V6 S-10s will fit. 26 spline input shafts are V8, 14 spline inputs are V6. A V6 trans will bolt up to a V8 if you use the V8 bellhousing, flywheel, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. The GM T5 isn't tilted compared to other T5s. The tilt is in the bellhousing and it's 30* towards the driver.
As far as fluids, WC T5s use ATF and NWC T5s use gear oil (75w90). Don't use gear oil in a WC T5 as it'll trash the synchros. Not even a mix unless you want to grind 'em up. I haven't tried 30w, but Redline and M1 ATF work well.
Fluids aren't going to keep you from breaking gears if you're drag racing or being hard on the trans. Depending on your power or how you drive it, shocking the gears will break them. If you want a T5 to live, you have to be nice to it. Slow, deliberate shifts will keep them alive. If you like to bang gears, I hope you like writing big checks.
My $.02.
