Noobie question about rear end

I have an 88 firebird formula. It has rear disc brakes. How can I tell first what rear end I have. I read that 9 bolt is a borg warner. I have a nine bolt. How can I tell what gears it has and if it is posi or not? I read to take the cover off and look but what do I look for?

Transmission: T-5 (Non-WC)
Axle/Gears: Limited Slip 3.23's
As xpndbl3 mentions, a number should be stamped on both the ring and pinion to provide the gear ratio:

41 : 15 = 2.73
40 : 13 = 3.08
42 : 13 = 3.23
41 : 12 = 3.42
41 : 11 = 3.73

If the ratio is different than your current rear end, you may need to swap the drive or driven (or both) in the tranny to get an exact speedo reading.

Posi or not?
