A spool permantently locks the rear wheels together. Means you can't really turn a corner anymore, unless it's in a sliding sorta way. Dirt racers use this. It's low tech, (that's why it's cheap), and won't do you any good for a non-track car (street).
What do you have so far? Housing from a ...? year is..?
If you just have the bare housing and nothing, you'll need;
gears
carrier (posi unit)
axles
gear install kit (master kit)
wheel bearings and seals
and any other addons you want to use, like a girdle or whatnot, and brakes.
This can get expensive, so if you can reuse some of what you have, it's all gravy. Whattya got?

do a search on here for rebuilding a 10 bolt.
I've started 2-3 threads on my rebuild, and i've posted a handful of pictures as well.

You're not going to find a spool for a 7.5" 10 bolt. It's not a performance diff where anyone makes any real performance parts for it.
If you were going to upgrade to a 9" or a 12 bolt, spools are available but I wouldn't recommend it for any street driving.
A spool is just a simple gear carrier like an open diff or a posi except it's a solid chunk of metal that the ring gear bolts to and the axles slide into. Since there's no differential action, both axles turn the same speed all the time. When turning at all, a normal differential allows the outside tire to rotate more than the sinde one. This is differential action. With a spool, the outside tire will slip across the ground as it tries to catch up. This can be dangerous on the streets especially with wet pavement.
From the sounds of it, you just need to upgrade your diff to better gears and a posi. Your 82 will have 26 spline axles. This information is needed when ordering a posi. You could purchase 28 spline axles and a 28 spline axle posi.
