th350 swap...

Ive been searching and so far, been reading crap... No offense....

Im swaping a short tail th350 in place of my 700r4 in my 86 IROC...

I know I need a D/S out of an 82 F-body with a 200c trans.

I know I will need a swap kit from either hurst or b&m...Which ones better?

What I dont know is whats the deal with the crossmember? Ive been reading i need one from a 82 f-body or If I buy the swap kit i wont need it?

Thanks for the advice...

You will need the right crossmember.

The 700 crossmember is about 4" to the rear of where it needs to be for the 350 or 200C, and consequently is the wrong length and has the wrong bolt pattern.

All the "kit" does is provide for the torque arm mount.

Beware, that the part they tell you to buy from GM, may not be easy to get. Have that piece in your hand before you disassemble your car.

im puttin a 307 and TH350 in a v6 84'. i bought the b&m, i havent installed it yet but its suppose to use the same crossmember if your puttin in a 350. you might have to buy a new mount for the torque arm that mounts on the kit.
-do you any place that sells 82' D/s?

Right, a 350 transmission uses the same crossmember as a 350 , regardless of the engine displacement.

Which is NOT the same as a 700 crossmember. You MUST get a different one if all you have is a 700 one. It WILL NOT work, as is, with a 350; no matter what torque arm mounting kit you use. The "swap kits" referred to above are TA mount kits.

Every drive shaft shop in the country can make you a drive shaft of the right length. Look in your yellow pages for drive shaft work, or call the places that service big trucks (18-wheelers), or 4-wheel-drive places. They're EVERYWHERE.

It's some one of the various torque arm brackets that they've used over the years. It's been awhile since I've seen it, so I don't recall why they tell you to use that particular one, out of however many possibilities there might have been over the years; but IIRC the "kit" won't fit any of the other ones.

The "kit" is a sort of L-shaped piece that mounts along with the trans mount, and sticks up beside the trans and provides the place to put the TA mount. Not very high-tech or elaborate. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to fab up something.
