450HP in front of a stock 700R4?!?!?!
Hey all, I will be building a 383 and am looking for about 450HP out of it, hopefully the same if not a lil more TQ... I have a stock 700R4 from my 88 Formula, This trans was just rebuilt but i highly doubt that any performance parts were installed, i will have to check the recipet but i doubt it. So my question is what can be done to make the tranny hold the power BESIDES keeping my foot off the pedal... and besides rebuilding it complelty...i would see it as a waste of a freshly rebuilt tranny just to rebuild it again, espically since i have never rebuilt a trans before and dont want my first one to be a performance oriented one.
I have read on here that many of the shift kits will auctually hurt the tranny ... I have also read that new servos would make it hold but how hard are those to install???...
Also another question, what stall converter should i look to purchase?? Im pretty sure the stock one isnt going to be good if i want to take it to the track once or twice...
I know these questions get asked alot and i have done numerous hours searching... so thanks for help

Car: 1990 IROCZ Camaro
Engine: 350 4bbl, 200cc Heads, 270hr Cam
Transmission: 700R4 w/ Trans-Go shift kit.
Axle/Gears: GM 10 bolt Posi
Basic things you can do to try to prolong the life of your transmission...emphaisis on the word 'try'.
-Trans-go shift kit, hands down the best one you can buy for your 700, and actually gives you firmer shifts the RIGHT way, not just by shimming accumulator springs.
-Trans cooler (if you go with a higher stall, you will need this or your trans is gone for sure)
Thats about it, dont expect this thing to last long either way. I say you start putting money towards a beefed up 700r4 or a T-56. I would go T-56 because one, its a manual, and two, for the same price, you get something that will hold the same power. (other than the fact that the built 700 will be mostly new)

Dont think i dont regret every minute i get that i did not buy a wrecked 97 Camaro with 50K miles on it... LT1 6 speed... $2k
Ok, i will look into purchasing a beefed 700 or T56, my NWC T5 didnt hold up more then 300 crank hp so now i have all the pedals and stuff to do the swap i guess...
