Dont say T56. How would you go about mating a T5 to a LSX motor? I know the input shafts and bellhousings are different between LTX and LSX trannies, so what would you have to do to get a T5 hooked up? Different flywheel? bell? clutch? what?

I was looking into bolting a ls t-56 to an old school small block. I would imagine you could do the oposite and bolt the old tranny to the new motor. Here's what I found.
The LS bell housing bolt pattern is the same as the the gen1 with one bolt hole missing. 9 second drag cars are running power glides this way with no problems. The crank mounting flange is 3/8" further away from the trans than a Gen1 motor. Drag guys use a spacer to take up the space and put the flex plate at the proper depth. Your best bet would be to use an LS clutch and flywheel with the spacer designed for the auto flex plates, everything should work out then. Of course you'll need to double check everything.
Edit: forgot about the pilot busing, you'll need to get a pilot bushing that is also 3/8" longer. You might try one the extended bushings ment for cars running motor plates.

thanx budd. Does the crank flange use the same bolt pattern for the flywheel? If so, why couldn't I just use the spacer and find a longer pilot bushing? Am I on the right track or no?
thanx again, morgan
